Switch 2 recevied third-party games and demos today

Today’s batch of Nintendo Direct announcements from the July Partner Showcase unveiled several new games and ports coming to the new Nintendo Switch 2, along with titles still coming to Nintendo’s older Switch console. A couple of these titles, as well as some demos, shadow-launched today on the Nintendo eShop after the Direct.

These new releases include a quirky social game, an acclaimed re-release, and demos for an original Square Enix title and a Sega action platformer.

Probably the oddest announcement in today’s Direct was for Chillin’ by the Fire, a campfire simulator that takes full advantage of the Switch 2’s social features. Up to four friends can gather around a campfire together through online play or GameShare. Players can even use their USB camera to appear in one of the many in-game environments, which include a beach, a forest, and a snowy mountain. Chillin’ by the Fire is now available to purchase and download from the Nintendo eShop.

Last year’s full remake of Romancing SaGa for Switch 1, PC, PS4, and PS5 is now available on Nintendo Switch 2. GameSpot’s 8/10 review of the remake says it’s “filled with systems that are fun to explore and utilize alongside a core gameplay conceit that remains unique.” According to the game’s Nintendo eShop listing, the Switch 2 Edition boasts a 1440p resolution in TV mode, a max of 60 frames per second, and decreased loading times.

Square Enix’s newest title that utilizes the HD-2D art style is The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales. Coming from the studio that made Octopath Traveler and the Bravely Default series, this upcoming game is an action-RPG with real-time combat. It launches on Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2026, but you can download and play the Switch 2 demo right now to get a taste of the beast-infested land of Philabeldia.

Sega’s hack-and-slash ninja series Shinobi returns with a stunning hand-drawn-inspired art style from Lizardcube, one of the studios behind Streets of Rage 4. Art of Vengeance aims to revive a classic property with an installment that GameSpot’s preview called “a wonderful successor to the original Sega series, and one that will reward skilled and patient fans of old-school action platforming.” The Switch 1 game (compatible with Switch 2) releases on August 29, but a demo is available on the eShop now.
