Are you hoping to make use of the best spells in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers? While most of the action in the game tends to be up close and personal, it’s still viable to play as a dedicated spellcaster. With these magical abilities, you should be able to eliminate enemies and bosses from a distance.

The best spells in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers – Best spells guide

Our best spells guide is organized based on when we obtained these abilities in the campaign. As such, we’ve listed the regions/locations to help you find them while exploring.

Likewise, before we continue, we have to mention a few caveats:

  • Aspiring spellcasters ought to wield one-handed swords. Among all weapon types, one-handed swords offer the highest magic stat boost.
  • You must unlock perks/nodes along the left-hand side of the skill tree. Several of these boost your spell’s potency depending on its classification–i.e. either magic damage or feathering damage.
  • You’re vulnerable while casting spells. As such, abilities that have the “Alacrity” perk tend to be head and shoulders above the rest. That’s because Alacrity lets you avoid an enemy’s blow if you’re struck in the middle of your casting animation.

Vorpal Blade

Vorpal Blade

  • How to obtain: Buddha Cliffs (Worship’s Rise) – This is the first spell that you’ll find in the game.
  • Spell type: Magic
  • Skyborn Might cost: +1
  • Effect: Unleash a blade that deals magic damage.

While Vorpal Blade might be the first magical ability that you acquire in the campaign, it should nonetheless serve you well for most of your playthrough. Its relatively cheap cost allows you to spam it, and its decent range means that you can hit fodder and minions from farther away.

Infernal Flames

Infernal Flames

  • How to obtain: Narrow Stretch/Shu Sanctum (Worship’s Rise) – Defeat the fire-breathing enemy in the plaza.
  • Spell type: Magic
  • Skyborn Might cost: +2
  • Effect: Send forth a mask of flame that pursues enemies and causes Burn buildup.

Burn is one of the most potent status effects, which makes this one of the best spells in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers as well. With a relatively low cost, you can cast Infernal Flames repeatedly during encounters to build up the scorching affliction.

Burning Flames

Burning Flames

  • How to obtain: Lu Mansion (Worship’s Rise) – After meeting the Red-Clad Lady, follow the sloping path and climb up the ladder. Then, take out the Avian Sorcerer on the hill.
  • Spell type: Magic
  • Skyborn Might cost: +3
  • Effect: Leap backward, then launch multiple fireballs that deal damage and cause Burn buildup. Being hit while leaping backward triggers Alacrity.

If you want a version of Infernal Flames that packs an even more sizzling punch, then you could consider Burning Flames instead. Several fireballs home in on your target and, if all the projectiles hit, you can almost guarantee that the Burn status will be inflicted, too. Even better, the leaping animation and Alacrity effect help you avoid enemy attacks at close range.

Echo of Soulwood

Echo of Soulwood

  • How to obtain: Corpse Pits (Worship’s Rise) – Defeat the Reborn Treant – Soulwood boss.
  • Spell type: Feathering
  • Skyborn Might cost: +2
  • Effect: Hurl chunks of gore that explode on impact, dealing feathering damage and causing Corruption buildup. Corruption buildup also affects the caster.

Echo of Soulwood is easily one of the best spells in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers due to the potential damage that it could deal. Aside from the impact from the projectiles, the Corruption malady causes a debilitating damage-over-time (DOT) effect that gradually depletes an opponent’s health.

The only issue is that the spell also causes your character to suffer from Corruption buildup. Nevertheless, if you have armors and items that mitigate this affliction, then you shouldn’t worry about it too much.

Echo of Ai Nengqi

Echo of Ai Nengqi

  • How to obtain: Rebel Camp (Cloudspire) – Defeat General of the North – Ai Nengqi.
  • Spell type: Magic
  • Skyborn Might cost: +2
  • Effect: Conjure forth a massive bow and shoot five thunder arrows that explode on impact. Can trigger Alacrity if you’re attacked while casting.

The five lightning-infused bolts hit hard, and you can land all these shots reliably if the target is (a) very large, (b) slow-moving, or (c) at close range. This spell is great for long-range engagements, too, though some of the arrows might miss.

Divine Blessing

Divine Blessing

  • How to obtain: Avian Dwelling (Mt. Zhenwu) – Talk to the Red-Clad Lady. When she asks you a question, choose to agree with her opinion.
  • Spell type: Magic
  • Skyborn Might cost: +4
  • Effect: Conjure a magical circle on the ground to recover your health over time.

Divine Blessing is, no doubt, one of the best spells in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. It’s not surprising because it’s the only magical ability that’s offers area-of-effect (AOE) healing. You can stand within the circle’s radius and gradually restore your health without having to use a healing flask charge. And, yes, you can keep attacking within its radius to stay in tip-top condition, too.

Ethereal Form

Ethereal Form

  • How to obtain: Zhenwu Antechamber (Mt. Zhenwu) – Found on a corpse at the training yard.
  • Spell type: Other
  • Skyborn Might cost: +1
  • Effect: Merge with the void to evade attacks, granting invisibility and Skyborn Might.

So, let’s recap: The vast majority of spells that you acquire in the game tend to be offensive in nature. Very few have support or utility functions. That brings us to Ethereal Form, which is pretty much a free perfect dodge/Shimmer and Skyborn Might energy rolled into one.

The effect lasts for only a couple of seconds, but that’s more than enough time for you to catch a breather, especially if your enemy is relentless with their attacks. And, because the dodge animation causes you to reposition, you could waylay your foe from the flanks or from behind.

That does it for our guide on the best spells in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. Since we’re already talking about top-tier options, you might want to read our best weapons guide and best pendants guide.
