From the moment you step foot on Arrakis in Dune: Awakening, you’re worried about your hydration level. The meter on the far left side of your screen is as unforgiving as anything else in the MMO, and keeping your character hydrated is constantly a goal for the majority of the early game.
Unfortunately, your methods of staying hydrated are extremely limited at the start of Dune: Awakening. You have the dew plants, but those only allow you to gain one level of hydration. To fully fill up your hydration meter, you need to acquire copious amounts of water and, eventually, blood to ensure your character doesn’t die out in the hot sands of Arrakis.
To see the best ways to get water and blood in Dune: Awakening, take a look at the guide below.
How to get more water in Dune: Awakening
For starters, the beginning of Dune: Awakening requires you to constantly be near dew plants for all of your water needs. Dew plants are, unfortunately, the best way to stay hydrated while you complete your first set of missions.
You can usually find dew plants on the dozens of rocky formations that are littered across the vast desert of Arrakis. Just walk around the rocks until you find a small patch of dew plants, hydrate from them, and then continue on with your current task. As we mentioned before, you can only fill up the first part of your hydration meter with dew plants, so you need a more permanent solution quickly.
After dew plants, your next form of hydration will come from blood. However, we’ll talk about getting blood in the section below. For now, let’s talk about actual water and where to get it when it’s not coming from a dew plant.
The primary way you’ll acquire water in Dune: Awakening is by crafting the Stillsuit. You’re able to craft this armor after completing a few missions and building the Fabricator at your base. The Stillsuit can be crafted mainly using Micro-sandwich Fabric, which you can loot from scavenger camp chests or purchase from traders.

Once you have the Stillsuit, you’ll be able to passively make your own water as you run around the world. The more effort you put in, the more water you’ll produce. You can then drink the produced Stillsuit water by pressing the button next to your hydration meter on the left side of the screen (F on PC by default). The water you get from the Stillsuit isn’t a consistent method to keep you permanently hydrated, though. It’s simply a way to always ensure you have some kind of water source.
For a more permanent solution, you need to progress in Dune: Awakening until you’re able to craft a Windtrap or Moisture Harvester at your base. Both of these base items can be researched and constructed at your base after you’ve visited the Griffin’s Research Tradepost and completed the missions following that excursion.
Both of these items passively produce water at your base and allow you to store it, ensuring that you always have a water supply as long as you visit your base fairly often.
Of course, always having to go to your base can be a slight pain when you want to adventure out in Arrakis. Luckily, you can also construct a Dew Reaper. This becomes unlocked after you purchase and craft the Hajra Literjon Mk1 schematic at the Griffin’s Research Tradepost. The Dew Reaper allows you to soak up dew plants and then store the harvested water inside the Hajra Literjon Mk1, which acts as a water container.

So, between the Dew Reaper and Hajra Literjon Mk1, the Windtrap and Moisture Harvester, and the Stillsuit, you should always have a water supply after you’ve completed the first 10 or so missions in Dune: Awakening.
How to get blood in Dune: Awakening
Between the dew plants and getting more permanent water supplies, your best bet to stay hydrated is by acquiring and drinking blood. Early on, you’re able to craft a Blood Extractor and Blood Packs. The extractor is used to extract blood from enemies you’ve killed, and the Blood Packs then store the blood you’ve harvested. You gain access to both of these items within the first five missions of Dune: Awakening.
Drinking blood is a fantastic way to stay hydrated, but you’ll need to rely on finding enemies to make it a consistent hydration source. The best way to find enemies in Dune: Awakening is by visiting scavenger camps. You can look on your map and zoom in at the different icons to find where the scavenger camps are located. The larger base camps on the map hold more enemies, but they’re also much harder to clear, as enemies use multiple guns and shields and will attack on sight. Scavenger camps hold enemies as well as valuable resources such as Salvaged Metal and Fuel Cells.

Whenever you kill an enemy, whip out your Blood Extractor, hold the shoot button, and your character will harvest their blood into an available Blood Pack. Every time you extract an enemy’s blood, you’ll receive 1,000 mL of blood, and every Blood Pack holds 3,000 mL. Blood restores nearly one portion of your hydration meter, so filling up and using an entire Blood Pack should get you near full hydration.
Unfortunately, it’s not always easy to run to multiple scavenger camps to refill your blood supply. However, in Dune: Awakening, all world resources and enemies are on a respawn timer. After around one in-game day, everything in the world will respawn, giving you the chance to kill the same enemies over and over in a short-ish amount of time.

So, if you find a solid location with multiple scavenger camps, remember where each one is located and head back there every new day to restore your Blood Packs. This is the best way to stay hydrated until you unlock the Stillsuit and more permanent water-gathering methods in Dune: Awakening.
