During the Gamescom Opening Night Live preshow, Atari and Fabraz announced Bubsy 4D, a 3D platformer starring the titular Bubsy, one of the many video game mascots of the 1990s. What could possibly go wrong?
The story of Bubsy 4D, according to the game’s official Steam page, will see Bubsy once again take on the Woolies, the yarn-obsessed creatures from previous Bubsy games. This time, they’ve kidnapped all of the sheep in the world and taken them to space, and it’s going to be up to Bubsy to stop them.
The debut trailer for this new Bubsy adventure shows the former ’90s hero in a 3D platforming world, where he will “run, jump, glide, and roll across alien planets, battle robotic sheep, and collect tons and tons of yarn,” according to the Steam listing. The trailer also shows a customization menu, where players can spend yarn collected in the world on new costumes for Bubsy–including a look mimicking Bubsy 3D.
This is the first new entry in the Bubsy franchise since Bubsy: Paws On Fire in 2019. Earlier this month, Atari also confirmed that Bubsy in: The Purrfect Collection–a collection of the first four Bubsy games–will launch September 9.
Bubsy 4D is set to launch on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
