Destiny 2’s next expansion, The Edge of Fate, is bringing some significant reworks to weapons and armor when it launches on July 15. It’s also adding a lot of new gear you’re going to want to chase down, from new Exotics that will change your builds, to weapons that feature all-new archetypes and armors that bring lots of cool new bonuses. Developer Bungie detailed a few of those new things in its latest livestream laying out what’s coming with The Edge of Fate to show off the gear you’ll take into battle and how it’ll change your builds. Here’s all the new gear we saw.
Eunoia – Warlock Exotic Solar gauntlets
Bungie had three new Exotic armor pieces to demonstrate during the livestream. Up first was the Warlocks’ Eunoia, a pair of gauntlets designed to boost the Hellion Prismatic Aspect. Hellion allows you to generate a Solar Soul with your class ability, which follows you around, shooting fireballs at enemies. Eunoia turns the Solar Souls fireballs into exploding mortar shells, which burst on impact and send out seeking projectiles to chase down more enemies.
Moirai – Hunter Exotic Strand chest armor
For Hunters, there’s Moirai, which amplifies melee builds that focus on Tangles. With Moirai, you can throw your Strand melee, Threaded Spike, at a Tangle to detonate it to do damage to nearby enemies, and then yank the Tangle back to you like a yo-yo. Grabbing Tangles from the field this way makes it easy to throw them into the fray or use them as grapple points.
Melas Panoplia – Titan Exotic Solar gauntlets
The Exotic for Titans powers up your Solar Throwing Hammer melee. The gauntlets give you a buff called Forge Master whenever you grab a Firesprite or land Solar final blows. When you throw your hammer while Forge Master is active, you can call it back to you, Thor-style. If you time your press on the retrieve button correctly, the hammer will also trigger an explosion that sets enemies ablaze while extending the duration of Forge Master.
New Archetype – Legendary Heavy bow
Bungie is throwing several new types of weapons into the loot pool in The Edge of Fate. First up is a new Legendary heavy weapon: the crossbow. These are slow-firing, powerful bows that deal high damage but carry limited ammo. In PvP, you can expect the crossbow to one-shot opponents with a headshot, and in PvE, you can slam bolts into enemies for big precision damage. While you won’t carry many crossbow bolts, you can retrieve the ones you hit enemies with, potentially making this an infinite-ammo heavy weapon. Instead of magazine perks, crossbows will have different bolt types; exploding bolts blow up after a short time when they hit enemies, while serrated bolts deal damage to opponents when you retrieve them after landing a shot.
New Archetype – Spreadshot hand cannon
Bungie described this new hand cannon archetype as having similarities to a sawed-off shotgun–big damage up close, but serious spread at any real distance. The spreadshot fires projectiles that can do significant damage, provided you land the whole blast. Accordingly, you can expect this hand cannon to two-tap opponents in PvP, but like shotguns, they’ll need to get up close and personal to pull off those kills. In PvE, these hand cannons seem like they’ll make clearing small enemies pretty quick and efficient.
New Archetype – Rocket-assisted pulse rifle
Pulses are getting an upgrade along the same lines sidearms did. Rocket-assisted pulse rifles fire slower projectiles that deal high damage, just like rocket sidearms do. The latter guns have become some of the best in Destiny 2, so it seems like these powerful special pulse rifles have a lot of potential in any build. The drawback is that rocket-assisted pulse rifles will have low ammo reserves and chew through bullets pretty quickly, so you’ll need to specialize your build to keep your ammo reserves high, or keep a constant eye out for special ammo bricks. Bungie said these fit somewhere between a linear fusion rifle and a sniper rifle, in terms of their use in combat situations and the damage they can put on enemies.
New Archetype – Longbow
If you wanted a bow that was even slower than a precision bow, but altogether more powerful, good news: The longbow archetype takes longer to draw but hits harder than current bows, and intrinsically over-penetrates targets. That means if you fully draw a longbow shot and line up small enemies like Thralls, you can pop several of them with a single arrow. Surely someone out there both enjoys using bows and wants an even slower one.
Artifact Mod – Anti-Champion Mods
Bungie detailed quite a few mods for the seasonal artifact, the Implement of Curiosity, that players will nab at the start of The Edge of Fate. While there are more interesting items on the list, the Champion-killing mods for the season are: Anti-barrier Scout and Pulse, Unstoppable Sidearm and Hand Cannon, Overload Shotgun, and Overload Rapid Fire.
Artifact Mod – Diviner’s Discount
All Scavenger mods are discounted.
Artifact Mod – Shoulder to Shoulder
Dealing sustained precision damage against enemies while near two or more allies grants you damage resistance.
Artifact Mod – Radiant Shrapnel
Dealing sustained weapon damage while Radiant or defeating a scorched combatant with a weapon causes the target to release Solar projectiles that deal damage and scorch on impact.
Artifact Mod – Fever and Chill
Rapid precision hits with Solar weapons grant Radiant. Rapid precision hits with Stasis weapons grant Frost Armor.
Artifact Mod – Tangled Web
Creating a Tangle by defeating a Strand debuffed target suspends nearby combatants.
Artifact Mod – Threaded Blast
Destroying a Tangle with Strand damage increases the radius of the explosion and its damage.
Artifact Mod – Elemental Overdrive
Picking up an elemental pickup or Tangle grants increased damage to weapons of the same element.
