After years of rumors and speculation, players will finally get their hands on Nintendo’s Switch 2 later this week. While fans are understandably eager to start playing the new console, Nintendo is issuing a very strong recommendation that players should leave the protective film in place over Switch 2’s portable screen.
Nintendo has released the Switch 2 instruction guide online, via Nintendo Soup. As explained in the text, “the screen is covered with a film layer designed to prevent fragments scattering in the event of damage.” The note goes on to tell players that they shouldn’t peel off the film.

Considering the Switch 2 is a long-term investment for players, they should take that advice to heart. There are also a lot of Switch 2 accessories, including screen protectors that can reduce the likelihood of damage from drops or scratches better than the protective film Nintendo already uses. But players will have to decide how much they’re willing to spend to do so.
Preorders for Switch 2 sold out almost immediately, and it’s unclear how quickly Nintendo will have restocks during its launch week. Nintendo has been gearing up by adding some of the new Switch 2 features to the Switch mobile app ahead of the console’s release.
Nintendo has lined up 20 Switch 2 games at launch, including Mario Kart World, which will be available in a console bundle as well. There are also updated Nintendo Switch 2 editions of both The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild and Tears Of The Kingdom, which will be available when Switch 2 launches on June 4.
