Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 4 is upon us! Superman came to the Fortnite island, wreaked all sorts of havoc every match, punched a giant tentacle to death in the live event, and then bailed. It’s not the best time for the Man of Steel to abandon us, because Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 4 is about to see the island overrun by an invasion of very large bugs. Fortunately for us, we’ve got some new helpers to fill Superman’s absence, as the Spartans from Halo and the Power Rangers are ready to do their part against the bugs. Let’s dive into all the new details for the new season.

Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 4 battle pass

Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 4 battle pass

The new battle pass, which costs 1000 V-Bucks, is unusual in a couple different ways, starting with the fact that it includes three (3) collaboration skins: the generic UNSC Spartan from the Halo franchise is the instant-unlock skin, and from Power Rangers we’ve also got the Green Ranger at the end of the linear pass and Dino Megazord as the mid-season drop.

But that UNSC Spartan skin is a special one, because you won’t actually need to purchase the battle pass to get it. For Chapter 6 Season 4, anyone who earns 100 levels will receive the free Fortnite Halo skin, starting August 26, without any need to purchase the battle pass.

As you might expect from the inclusion of those two random franchises, there’s not much of a theme on this battle pass, but that’s OK because there’s a pretty interesting and diverse set of skins here. Aside from the collab folks above, the pass also comes with these five skins, which includes a remix of Mae from Chapter 4 Season 4, a panda wearing human clothes, and a fictional Korean idol.

The bug invasion

The bug invasion

The island’s status quo is changing in a big way with this season with the invasion of bugs, which will be all over the place–for the most part, we’ll be swapping out NPC guards for NPC bugs this season, from the lowly Swarmers to the boss Queens that run the nests. There are three bug queens around the map, two at new locations listed below, and another at the recently destroyed Demon’s Domain.

Fortnite is keeping its in-match rank system from Season 3, but this time around it will measure your standing with the organization fighting the bugs, the OXR (Onimorph eXtermination Rangers). The perks are a little better this time, though, because ranking up will prompt the OXR to send you and your squad a drop pod full of weapons and supplies. Plus, there will also be bunkers around the island to unlock at rank A.

Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 4 map changes

There are three new major locations in Season 4: OXR HQ, where the purported good guys lead the fight against the bugs; The Hive, where the bugs are based; and Ranger’s Ruin, an old OXR base that is now full of bugs. But the changes aren’t limited to those three places–there’s bug stuff, like Hive Sacs full of loot, all over the map.

New weapons and tools

New weapons and tools

In addition to several returning weapons and items, the arsenal is expanding with several new toys in Season 4, including the plasma-powered Bug Blaster, the OXR Rifle, the Wrecker Revolver, Sweeper Shotgun, Leadspitter minigun, and Swarmstrike rocket launcher. Oh, and there are some really interesting new exotics, like a new version of the Shockwave launcher that makes you (or your enemies) fly through the air very slowly.

We fly now

We fly now

Flying vehicles were generally available during matches for the first time in years with the X-Wings and TIE Fighters we had during Star Wars season in May, and Season 4 will likewise bring us the return of the Choppas (that’s Fortnite-speak for helicopter) in force for the first time since Chapter 3. But these aren’t the Choppas you’re used to–these Hammerhead Chopas are bigger, better, and more equipped to deal with all these bugs.

New NPC bosses: the bug queens

New NPC bosses: the bug queens

There are three bug queens around the map–one each at The Hive, Ranger’s Ruin, and Demon’s Domain–and each drops a unique mythic weapon and medallion.

  • Demon’s Doman bug queen: drops Mythic OXR Rifle the Carapace medallion, which gives health siphon on kills and passively recharges your shield up to 50.
  • The Hive bug queen: drops Mythic Wrecker Revolver and the Surge medallion, which makes you move faster and gives you an extra burst of speed whenever you slide.
  • Ranger’s Ruin bug queen: drops the Mythic Tactical Shotgun and the Springleg medallion, which lets you double jump and negates fall damage.
