Are you eager to build structures in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach? You can place various fixtures in the environment, and each one has a unique function that helps you explore the harsh wilderness. Our guide has all the info you need for this particular facet of the game.

How to build structures in Death Stranding 2 – PCC structures guide

The structures in the game are typically built by using Portable Chiral Constructors, also known as PCCs. Here’s a quick summary:

  • Level 1 P can be crafted via terminals in distribution centers/facilities. You can then equip these like any other item, which causes a selection wheel to appear.
  • Pick the structure that you want to erect, then toss the PCC at a valid spot. Note that you must be in an area that’s already connected to the Chiral Network to complete this process.
  • More buildable structures become unlocked as you progress through the campaign.
  • Other players will be able to see the fixtures that you’ve built. They can give you extra “likes” if they found your structure useful.
  • You and other players can donate materials to a structure’s terminal to repair or upgrade it.
  • You can unlock certain APAS Enhancement skills if you’re really keen on participating in the community effort. Some even let you have more Strand Contracts with other players, which causes you to share more structures and resources with them.

The Chiral Network and available bandwidth

The Chiral Network and available bandwidth

If you want to build structures in Death Stranding 2, then you need to make sure that you’re in a zone that’s connected to the UCA’s Chiral Network. That means completing a few missions/orders until the NPC leader of the settlement says that they’d like to be connected via the Q-Pid.

Zones that are part of the Chiral Network have a blue border seen when you scan the area. Those outside the network have a red border.

Furthermore, each structure takes up a certain amount of the zone’s bandwidth. As such, you have to level up your connection/reputation with settlements to increase your total available bandwidth.

Note: The bandwidth mechanic is somewhat circumvented due to the number of online players. That’s why it’s possible to see numerous structures within a given zone–other players are plopping down their own devices, and you’re able to use them, too.

Bridge Foundations

Bridge Foundations

You can use your level 1 PCC to construct a Bridge, which helps you get across rivers. And, yes, you can even alter its length. Likewise, take note that you must place the outline of the structure in a valid area that doesn’t have other obstacles, vehicles, loose ground, or deep water.

Lastly, remember that you’re only placing the Bridge Foundation. That means you must donate the necessary metal resources to fully complete the fabrication process.

Postboxes

Postboxes

Think of Postboxes as somewhat akin to makeshift cargo holds in facilities. These allow you to recycle unneeded items, store weapons/materials/containers, and fabricate new gear. If ever you’re unable to carry all your loot, then you might as well leave it in private storage so you can come back for it later. Oh, and you can also hide inside these contraptions to escape enemies.

Watchtowers

Watchtowers

The Watchtower is a Death Stranding 2 structure that lets you spy on enemy bases from afar. While it’s true that you can rely on your binoculars or your Dollman camera, the Watchtower can reveal everything in an area with little effort. You don’t have to worry about tagging every enemy or constantly scanning the location.

Timefall Shelters

Timefall Shelters

The Timefall Shelter is a fairly useful fixture, especially when you’re in a bind. That’s because the Timefall weather phenomenon heavily damages containers and vehicles. But, if you’re within a Timefall Shelter’s radius, your wares should remain repaired and protected. Even better, the Timefall Shelter has a shield that can temporarily prevent hostile BT specters from reaching your character.

Generators

Generators

Generators might just be the most important type of structure in Death Stranding 2. This is primarily due to their function: They quickly recharge the battery of your vehicle.

Since your vehicle’s battery gets drained as you’re driving/boosting or due to mishaps like getting hit by electrocuting enemy attacks, then it’s imperative that you have the means to stay on the go. Try to plop these down in areas that are far away from larger bases or DHV Magellan landing zones.

Zip-lines

Zip-lines

You’ll unlock more structures in Death Stranding 2 as you progress further into the campaign. By the time you reconnect the Dowser’s settlement to the Chiral Network, you’ll be able to craft level 2 PCCs.

The first new mid-tier fixture that you’ll be able to erect is the Zip-line:

  • By default, Zip-lines have a length of 300 meters, though this can be increased if you upgrade that particular terminal.
  • Naturally, you won’t be able to attach a vehicle, but you can bring along one Floating Carrier.
  • Prior to constructing a Zip-line, you’ll be able to change its angle to alter your potential destination/end point.
  • Upon reaching your destination, you can turn around to travel back to the initial area.
  • Zip-lines can also be linked to Monorail junctions to create longer alternate paths that let you zoom across entire areas.

Jump Ramps

Jump Ramps

Jump Ramps are quite fun to use. You can either go on foot or drive a vehicle, and then get launched off of these contraptions. If you press the jump button prior to hitting the “gate” of the ramp, you’ll perform a more energetic and extreme leap. While in mid-air, you have to press the correct button prompts so you can cover even greater distances.

More importantly, Jump Ramps negate fall damage and vehicular/cargo damage upon landing on the ground. However, the jump sequence will end and you’d fall if you collide with an object while you’re in mid-air.

Safehouses

Safehouses

Safehouses, much like Bridges, have foundations that require materials–in this case you’d need chiral crystals, resins, and special alloys. Safehouses also have the same function as regular facilities/bases. You can access a private room to rest and restore your ammo, and you may fully repair and recharge your vehicle, too.
