The thing that struck me most in my first few hours of playing Dune: Awakening was just how vast the world is. The sand dunes of Arrakis are gargantuan in scale, and before long I was pretty frustrated at how long it was taking me to traverse them. That’s when I discovered the game’s pretty convoluted fast-travel system. Here’s how to fast travel in Dune: Awakening, including when you’ll unlock it, and a list of places you can fast travel between.

How to unlock fast travel

To unlock fast travel in Dune: Awakening, you’ll need to meet an NPC who is pretty hidden in a side quest. You won’t be taught about fast travel in the game’s main introductory quests, surprisingly. You will unlock things such as the Sandbike and other vehicles by playing the game a bit further, but the soonest opportunity to fast travel comes in the A Wider World side quest.

You can pick up this quest the first time you visit Griffin’s Reach Tradepost, which happened for me around the three-hour mark. That’s taking into consideration the fact that I spent a little too long searching for the perfect place to build my base, and then turned it into a four-story mansion. You see how that can take up my time?

Regardless, when you’re at Griffin’s Reach speak to the ornithopter pilot, who is in the corner of the main building, opposite the contracts board. You can ask them to fly you to one of three locations: Hagga Basin, Arrakeen, and Harko Village.

Harko Village is a Harkonnen stronghold, Arrakeen is where House Atreides hole up, and Hagga Basin lists the locations you’ve already visited. You can select any of those to quickly fly to them. While you can’t access fast travel via the main map screen, there’s usually a Tradepost pretty close by, at least in the first few hours of the game. Afterwards, you can rely on your own vehicles to quickly traverse the dunes.
