Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate introduces a bunch of new abilities for moving around Kepler. These can add a neat wrinkle to Destiny’s conventional traversal, and many of the secrets around Kepler require you to use them in sequence to solve puzzles.
Some of the early missions, however, can be frustrating to navigate, especially if you’re just getting the hang of Matterspark, the ability that turns your Guardian into a ball of light. In addition, Matterspark paths are not always marked clearly.
One particular mission, Fallow, requires several different Matterspark sequences, and the ones at the end are not obvious. I myself spent about 20 minutes trying to locate the correct pathways when I first played this mission. To help out, we’ve put together this guide walking through Fallow and explaining where each Matterspark corridor is located.
Fallow is located in the Aionian Campus; it is a required mission in the main Edge of Fate campaign. You can replay it by returning to the mission marker after completing the campaign. Trigger the mission marker to start the mission.
Enter the main mission area
Right after starting Fallow, head to your right and through the train-car portal that will start flashing and glowing green as you approach.
The first Matterspark path
Immediately upon exiting the portal, keep an eye out for the first Matterspark path: an air duct with an entrance near the ground. The entrance is facing the wall so it’s easy to miss, but the image above shows what to keep an eye out for.
The Matterspark portal is through the door–you’ll need to kill a couple of Vex before transforming into the energy ball. Once you turn into Matterspark, head into and up the air duct and through to the next room.
First big combat encounter
After exiting the Matterspark path, you’ll be in a combat arena. Kill the enemies and clear out the room. After eliminating the Minotaur, shoot the energy cube that’s blocking the next Matterspark path.
Once the coast is clear, grab Matterspark from the location in the room (this one should be easy to spot) and head through the tunnel. This Matterspark path should be marked with a quest marker, so it shouldn’t be too frustrating.
Opening the door to the final room
Jump into the room and destroy the generator. The shield will disappear and the door at the far end of the arena will open. Go through the door and you’ll be in the final room of the level.
Beginning the last encounter
The room in the image above is where you’ll fight the boss and complete the environmental puzzles that are required for finishing Fallow. The first thing you’ll see is a bunch of enemies and three more of the energy cubes that are powering shields. Kill the enemies.
Focus on the Minotaurs to expose the cubes and shoot them to make the shields disappear. Run over to the mounds of materials that the shields were covering, and trigger the transmat prompt that comes up. You’ll need to transmat three of these mounds before moving to the next phase.
Transmatting materials
There are three total energy cubes that need to be destroyed; the last is in the back corner to the left as you walk into the arena. They should be marked with waypoints.
The boss appears
Place the rally banner to top up on ability meters and resources and move forward to make the boss appear. Devastation Mind is a strong Vex harpy that has three phases to its health bar. You can immediately bring its health down a third, at which point it will become immune and you need to complete the first environmental puzzle.
Completing the first puzzle
After triggering Devastation Mind, go to the platform on the right of the main area (with your back to the door you came in) and kill the enemies that spawn there. You’ll need to take down another Minotaur to expose the energy cube.
A hidden Matterspark path
Shooting the cube will expose the Matterspark path, which is embedded in the floor. Drop down into it and head into the shielded room, where you can shoot another generator. This will drop the shield doors and make the boss re-emerge, vulnerable to more damage.
Rinse and repeat
After bringing the boss down to 1/3 of its original health, it will once again become immune. Head to the leftmost platform and kill the enemies there, once again destroying a Minotaur and shooting an energy cube. This time, the Matterspark path is a tunnel embedded in the wall with the shield doors. In the image above, the reticle is pointed just to the right of the tunnel that you need to go through.
Traverse through the tunnel and hit the generator in the back room. The doors will fall and the boss will once again re-emerge.
Completing the level
Finish off Devastation Mind and head toward the quest marker at the end of the arena. You’ll be able to bring down the final shield door and grab your rewards from a chest that spawns. If it’s the first time playing this level, you’ll also get a Rosetta upgrade, allowing you to progress the campaign and unlock more secret chests.
