Rocket League and Fortnite’s Summer Road Trip event is a doozy this year, with a slick new free Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 car body that can be used in both games as the big prize at the end. But since the event coincides with Rocket League’s 10th anniversary celebration, Epic is giving folks a little bit more incentive to try out the popular car soccer game by offering a free Fortnite skin and glider that you can only earn by playing Rocket League. The Rocket League half of the event wraps up on August 4, so you’ll only have until then to earn them.

How the event works is that both Fortnite and Rocket League have Summer Road Trip quests that players can complete to unlock the Corvette ZR1, and each game has its own unique set of other rewards that you can unlock along the way. On the Fortnite side, those rewards include a pickaxe, a wrap, and “The Zephyr Song” jam track by The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

On the Rocket League side, the major rewards are the Fortnite skin Hairpin, which is a very nice recolor of existing skin Pitstop, and a giant Rocket League ball that works as a glider. To unlock these items, you’ll need to complete two quests by playing Rocket League–there’s no method to obtain them in Fortnite.

How to unlock the League Balloon Fortnite Glider

Let’s start with the easy one. To unlock the ball glider, you’ll have to complete this objective in Rocket League: “Play a private match with custom mutators during Summer Road Trip.” To do this one, select Play from the main menu, and then choose Private Match, which is the lower right option, then pick Create Private Match. You can choose any settings you want here, including playing against bots–no need for another player on this quest. Just be sure to set at least one Mutator; it doesn’t matter which one. If you get an error message about your region when trying to start the match, change the region setting from “Recommended” to whatever specific region you live in.

If you just want to get through this as quickly as possible, you can set the game to be sudden death by making the first to one goal win the round, and making your opponents beginner level bots that will never boost. Complete the game, win or lose, and you’ll unlock the glider.

How to unlock the free Hairpin Fortnite skin quickly

The quest to unlock the skin requires you to make 15 saves or epic saves during online matches–private matches won’t count for this. It’s an easy quest to complete simply by playing normally, but if you don’t usually play Rocket League and are looking for the optimal path, you have two main options. First is to play in 1v1 matches and focus on defending. Let your opponent take as many shots as they want while you sit back and try to block them. You’re very unlikely to win the match playing like that, but that’s not the point of this exercise anyway.

The second option is to play Heatseeker, a limited-time mode that is currently in the casual rotation. In Heatseeker, the ball naturally veers toward the goal whenever it’s hit, which means you’ll have lots more chances to get saves than you would in a regular match.

There are two additional Summer Road Trip quests in Rocket League that only award XP, but you’ll need to do them if you want to earn the Corvette ZR1 from Rocket League. Those quests are to get 15 assists or clears, and to get 15 goals–both in public online games like the quest tied to the free skin. If you complete all four of these missions, you’ll unlock the ZR1’s wheels. At that point, you’re just one step away from earning the car, but that last step is time-gated until Monday, July 28. On Monday, you’ll be able to unlock the Corvette by playing five online games in a party with the ZR1 wheels equipped.
