Are you excited to unlock the Faydown Cloak Double Jump in Hollow Knight: Silksong? This is one of the most useful abilities for Hornet since it trivializes exploration and traversal. However, it’s also a reward for one of the toughest segments in the entire game.

How to get the Faydown Cloak Double Jump in Hollow Knight: Silksong

The Faydown Cloak Double Jump ability comes from the aptly named Mount Fay, a sub-zone in The Citadel. Now, just hold your horses. You can’t go there in a hurry. That’s because there are a few requirements and caveats:

  • Progression-dependent abilities like Swift Step (Air Dash) and Drifter’s Cloak (Glide/Float) are a given. But you also need the Clawline (Grappling Hook). That’s found in The Cauldron area of the Underworks.
  • You need to get captured by a specific enemy. This causes you to get transported to a prison area known as The Slab.
  • After exiting The Slab, you’ll arrive at Mount Fay. The entire place has an extremely cold climate.

Assuming you already have the aforementioned Clawline Grappling Hook, then you should be ready to obtain the Hollow Knight: Silksong Double Jump ability. But first, Hornet needs to be captured. Here’s a quick summary:

  • You need to go up against a Wardenfly enemy in the top-right section of Deep Docks.
  • The idea is to lure the enemy until it traps you in sticky globules.
  • It will then jump toward Hornet and place her in a cage.
  • Note that you can still take damage from other attacks. Hornet cannot perish–she needs to be imprisoned for this part to work.

Because Hornet has been captured, she starts this level without any of her gear. At best, you’ll only be able to wall climb/wall jump, but that’s it. You need to do the following:

  • Obtain the Key of Indolent, followed by the Key of Heretic, as you make your way around the prison.
  • Without your weapons, you should just avoid enemy encounters. If you have no choice, then you can use the traps in certain rooms to kill your foes.
  • Upon arriving at an area above the guards, you can drop down and attack to get your gear back. This leads to a gauntlet battle.
  • Note that you have to re-equip various crests, tools, and items once you’re done.

The dangers of Mount Fay

The dangers of Mount Fay

As mentioned earlier, the Hollow Knight: Silksong Double Jump ability can be found at the very peak of Mount Fay. And, of course, you start at the base/lowest point of the level. But that’s not all. There are so many hazards that could kill your character. Here’s the gist:

  • It’s extremely cold in Mount Fay. There are areas and objects that give off warmth–i.e. lanterns and fireplaces–but these are few and far between.
  • After leaving a source of light/warmth, your character will slowly freeze to death. This is denoted by the blue HP masks at the top-left corner of the screen.
  • It takes 20 seconds to lose your first health mask/pip. After that, your health will dwindle rapidly–i.e. roughly three seconds per damage tick.
  • Bodies of water are frigid, and your health will drop faster if you’re submerged.

Naturally, there are also enemies to contend with. Perhaps the biggest challenges are the jumping/platforming sections:

  • The reason why you need the Clawline Grappling Hook is because you need to latch onto enemies, walls, and rings.
  • More often than not, you have to grapple onto an enemy, followed by a ring, then a wall jump/wall climb, leading to a segment where you have to avoid spikes, and another section where you have to grapple repeatedly.
  • These sections will test your mettle. If Hornet dies, you’ll respawn at the last checkpoint/bench that you used.

Benches and checkpoints

Benches and checkpoints

There are only three benches/checkpoints in the entirety of Mount Fay:

  • The first rest area is right next to Shakra. Make sure you purchase this region’s map, too.
  • The second is in the lower-left section near a Mask Shard. You have to destroy the wall to reveal a passageway to the bench. It also costs 90 Rosaries just to activate.
  • There’s a third bench in the middle-right portion as you’re making your climb to the peak.

Faydown Cloak Double Jump location

If you manage to reach the summit of Mount Fay, you’ll see an altar that you can interact with. This causes a bird to swoop down, granting you the Faydown Cloak as a reward. This gives you the Double Jump ability. (And, yes, you can still glide/float, grapple, and pogo after doing a Double Jump.)

That does it for our guide on how to unlock the Faydown Cloak Double Jump in Hollow Knight: Silksong. With this skill, exploration should be so much easier, especially when you’re looking for more Mask Shards and Lost Fleas.
