Are you curious about how can get a vehicle in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach? Traveling across various regions presents certain challenges, not the least of which is bringing along a ton of items that you need to deliver. Naturally, you need something that can help with exploration.

How to get vehicles in Death Stranding 2

There are several ways to get vehicles in the game. The most reliable method is by crafting/fabricating one in a large base. You can also try other options, such as hijacking those controlled by enemies and finding ones left behind by other players.

How to craft a Tri-Cruiser and Pickup Off-Roader

You can get a vehicle in Death Stranding 2 by progressing normally through the campaign. Upon completing the main objective in the Former Geophysics Research Lab in Mexico, you’ll be able to fabricate a Tri-Cruiser. Note that vehicles can only be fabricated in large facilities with a garage, as well as the DHV Magellan mobile base:

  • The Tri-Cruiser costs 220x metals, 160x ceramics, and 10x chemicals to fabricate.
  • Later, you can add armor plating, which costs 100x resins and 130x metals.

Several hours later, after completing Order 12, you should gain access to the West Fort Knot facility. Eventually, you’ll have the means to fabricate the Pickup Off-Roader, too:

  • This heavy-duty truck can carry tons of cargo, though it’s significantly slower compared to the Tri-Cruiser.
  • The Pickup Off-Roader costs 320x metals, 230x ceramics, and 20x chemicals to fabricate.

There are other options if you want to have wheels while on the go:

  • Enemy vehicles – Trucks like the Pickup Off-Roader can be found in enemy hideouts and camps, usually in one of the larger storage tents. Note that vehicles that belong to enemies cannot be repaired normally in facilities.
  • Player vehicles – If you’re connected to the game’s online services, then there’s a chance that you’d spot vehicles left behind by other players.
  • Facility vehicles – There are vehicles parked in facilities, but you normally won’t be able to drive them.

Advantages when driving vehicles

Advantages when driving vehicles

Once you have a vehicle in Death Stranding 2, you can see all the benefits that your versatile trike can provide:

  • A vehicle’s speed boost can be activated by pressing L3.
  • You can also execute a double-jump while riding a Tri-Cruiser and Pickup Off-Roader by pressing the X button twice.
  • Certain small and medium-sized weapons can be brought out and fired while riding a vehicle.
  • If you’re riding the Tri-Cruiser, you’ll still be able to pick up items off the ground without ever leaving the vehicle itself.
  • The Pickup Off-Roader, meanwhile, has a couple of upgrades that can be yours once you connect the F2 South Distribution Center:
    • Heavy Machine Gun – Automatically shoots MP bullets at nearby hostiles.
    • Sticky Cannon – Automatically grabs lost cargo and resource crates as long as there’s space in its interior. This contraption is very useful, but it can still grab offloaded items that you want to get rid of.

Managing your loot while riding a vehicle

Managing your loot while riding a vehicle

Perhaps the most notable advantage is that vehicles help you carry all your loot:

  • You no longer need to worry about stumbling around and shifting your weight. You can ignore that mechanic since you’re driving something with wheels.
  • Vehicles have their own carrying capacity to help manage your cargo inventory. Simply face your motorcycle or truck and hold the Triangle button. This will open the inventory management screen, where you’ll be able to move crates from your backpack to the vehicle’s trunk/storage.

That does it for our guide on how to get vehicles in Death Stranding 2. Of course, there are still some downsides. Vehicles have limited durability, and taking too much damage from enemy attacks or Timefall can cause it to get wrecked. And, yes, they still need to be repaired and recharged.

Last but not least, there are also other ways that help improve navigation in the game world. You can learn more about these in our fast travel guide and monorail guide.
