Are you wondering about how to repair cargo containers in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach? Regardless of how much care you put into traversing dangerous landscapes, there’s still a chance that your crates will end up tumbling all over the place due to mishaps and shenanigans. Fortunately, you can still keep your items safe and in pristine condition.

How to repair cargo containers in Death Stranding 2

There are a couple of ways to repair cargo containers in the game, as well as a few methods that help prevent crates from getting damaged in the first place. We’re going to discuss all of these and more in the next sections of our guide.

Note: Repairing a container/crate only restores its durability. It will not restore the durability of the actual item or resource that’s inside.

What causes containers to get damaged?

What causes containers to get damaged?

Before we talk about how to repair containers in Death Stranding 2, let’s look at what causes severe damage:

  • Accidents and falls – Carrying around too many items on your back causes you to lose balance. One misstep and you could stumble and fall, and all your crates could come crashing down, too.
  • Enemy attacks – Enemies could strike and hit Sam and his containers.
  • Rough terrain when driving – Hitting rocks, walls, and other obstacles while driving a vehicle could damage your crates. This could also happen if the vehicle falls or tumbles from a great height.
  • Timefall – Torrential and otherworldly rainfall corrodes metallic containers and vehicles.

Naturally, an item with this name has but one function, and that’s to ensure that your crates and boxes remain sturdy. Here’s the gist:

  • Each Container Repair Spray costs 20x Chiral Crystals and 10x Resins to craft.
  • When equipped, you can press and hold R2 to spray the boxes that are on your back.
  • Alternatively, you can press the Square button to aim the item in front of you. This lets you spray boxes that are on the ground or those that are in vehicles.

How to craft and use a Timefall Shelter

The Timefall Shelter is the go-to structure that you want to build if you want to repair containers in Death Stranding 2.

  • The Timefall Shelter can be constructed via a level 1 PCC. Simply equip the PCC and select it, then toss it on the ground.
  • While you’re within the radius of a Timefall Shelter, a Container Repair Spray will remain active to continuously improve the durability of your crates.
  • Your wares will also be immune from the effects of the Timefall rain while the weather phenomenon is occurring.
  • If there are BTs nearby, they won’t be able to reach you due to an impenetrable shield. However, the shield itself will dissipate and will need some time to recharge.

How to deliver fragile cargo

How to deliver fragile cargo

You have even bigger risks to take in case you’re tasked with delivering lost cargo with fragile contents–i.e. the box has several fragile stickers on it. These crates can only take a limited amount of damage. Once the container is destroyed, you can say “bye bye” to the contents as well.

If you see this type of delivery order, make sure you place it inside a vehicle. Next, you must be extremely careful when driving around. Avoid every obstacle or rock along the path, and try not to do double jumps in case the impact causes damage, too.

Upgrades and perks that prevent container damage

Upgrades and perks that prevent container damage

There are also a few perks and upgrades that help negate damage. Here are some examples:

  • Strand tying – You can offload your whole backpack and tie it using a Strand item. This will decrease the chance that the contents will fall in case you stumble or lose your footing.
  • Instant Cargo Binding – This is one of the best skills in the game. It causes a binding to trigger if you do fall down, which minimizes the potential damage that might occur.
  • Back Protector attachment – This attachment for your backpack protects items from getting ripped apart by gunfire. However, it will shatter if it takes too much damage.
