If you’re anything like me, the main problem you’re facing in the early hours of Dune: Awakening is how long it takes to traverse the dunes of Arrakis. That’s where vehicles come in. Vehicles serve multiple purposes. Some are good for traversal, while others are essential for resource gathering or combat. Sandbikes are fast and will get you from one point to the next far faster than running, while scout ornithopters give you a birds-eye view of your environment.
You can fast travel between points of interest that you’ve visited before. While we’ve got a guide on Dune: Awakening fast travel and how to unlock it, sometimes the situation calls for something a little more personalized.
Here’s how to unlock vehicles in Dune: Awakening, as well as all of the vehicles we’re aware of in the game right now.
How to unlock vehicles in Dune: Awakening
We’ll focus on the Sandbike first, since it’s the vehicle you’ll likely be able to construct first. Most vehicles must be built at at a base or a shelter, and vehicle parts can be unlocked via the research menu in-game using Intel Points. Unlocking a vehicle’s schematic kit will give you the ability to craft each part of it.
How to build the Sandbike
To unlock the Sandbike, you need to research the Mk1 Sandbike Assembly.
Once you’ve crafted all parts for the vehicle, you’ll need to equip a welding torch and select the assembly option. Then, find an available space on the ground to begin the construction.
Once you’ve built the vehicle’s body, you will need a Vehicle Fuel Cell, which can be crafted in a Chemical Finery. When your vehicle is fully assembled and you have enough fuel cells, you can use it.

Vehicle grading
As with all equipment in Dune: Awakening, vehicles have grades which determine their quality. The higher the quality of your vehicle, the better. You’ll be able to unlock new schematic kits in the research menu, which will have higher-grade parts. These will usually have better stats, but come at the cost of requiring rarer resources to craft them. Thanks to the modular design of vehicle construction, you can mix different grade components when building.
How to repair vehicles
Using your vehicle will slowly cause it to deteriorate. This happens with everyday use, but also if you take damage from enemies or the environment. You can visually see this happening, as if the vehicle deteriorates too much, smoke will begin to billow out from it.
To repair a vehicle you’ll need a welding torch, as well as welding wire. With the welding torch equipped, select the repair option and aim it at the damaged component of the vehicle. Fire the welding torch to use it, and your repairs will soon be done. The welding torch will automatically use any welding wire in your inventory, you don’t need to manually load it. Higher quality welding wire will cause the vehicle to degrade more slowly over time.

All Dune: Awakening vehicles
The vehicles you can craft in Dune: Awakening are:
- Sandbike – One-person ground vehicle used to quickly navigate. The fastest land-based vehicle in the game, but this comes at a cost of low storage.
- Buggy – Four-person ground vehicle that can transport your group. Can be armed with weapons and equipment.
- Sandcrawler – One-person spice collection vehicle that’s also capable of harvesting flour sand. Well-armored, but slow.
- Scout ornithopter – The lightest and smallest flying vehicle. No weapons, and average armor, but speedy.
- Assault ornithopter – Not as fast as a scout, but very agile and well-armored. Can be armed with weapons.
- Carrier ornithopter – The largest air vehicle, but the slowest. Can carry large groups or a lot of items across long distances. Well-armored.
