In anticipation of the Mortal Kombat 2 movie trailer tomorrow, Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage got his own trailer treatment for a fake action movie, Uncaged Fury. The movie trailer sees Mortal Kombat’s marketing team treat Johnny like the action star he is. This is very different from Linden Ashby’s version from the 1995 movie, where Cage’s star had fallen and was seen as a joke, having to lower himself to cheesy martial-arts movies.

The pseudo-trailer has Urban’s Johnny taking on several armed men and even dodging a bazooka blast. Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon even posted a fake poster for Uncaged Fury earlier this week, setting the stage for what they’re going for. Think Chris Evans as Lucas Lee from Scott Pilgrim or Ben Stiller as Tugg Speedman from Tropic Thunder, and you get the vibe.

As Mortal Kombat’s Johnny is a bona fide martial arts expert, he used his talent to launch a lucrative Hollywood career. Cage, an homage/parody to Jean Claude Van Damme, usually serves up fists and kicks for his attacks, all the while protecting his “bad ass” image, sporting shades and doing his best to look cool.

Mortal Kombat 2 will hit theaters on October 24, 2025.

Meanwhile, things are a little strange in the video game department of the Mortal Kombat franchise. Support for Mortal Kombat 1 is coming to a close following the release of the game’s definitive edition, as developer NetherRealm said that it needed to focus on its next project. Whether that’s another Mortal Kombat, an Injustice game, or something else remains to be seen.
