Travel to the Edge of Eternities
With Final Fantasy now in the past, the Magic: The Gathering community has turned its attention to the stars, as Edge of Eternities–the next in-universe MTG set–is coming August 1. Today, Wizards of the Coast offered an extensive first look at some of the spells we’ll be casting and lands we’ll be traveling to within the new spacefaring set, including some spicy reprints from Magic’s past.
Edge of Eternities tells an all-new story within the MTG universe, set in a never-before-seen world beyond the stars. New faces are joined by old enemies–the planeswalker Tezzeret was revealed during a recent MagicCon panel, for example–in a interstellar affair that also brings all-new game mechanics.
Warp, for example, lets you cast a creature, activate its enters-the-battlefield trigger, and then exile it to cast as a later time, while Void gives you a benefit if another player used a Warp ability in that turn. Station, meanwhile, adds charge counters to vehicles and planets, and after reaching a certain counter threshold, those cards activate and gain powerful abilities.
The Edge of Eternities set will also include multiple “set-within-a-set” bonus sheets, including:
- Stellar Sights, which includes reprints of powerful lands from MTG’s past
- Surreal Space, alternate artworks of EoE cards
- Viewport Lands, alternate artworks of EoE lands
- Japan Showcase, special anime-inspired alternate artworks of EoE cards
- Special Guests, which include reprints of cards from MTG’s past in a new “space comic” style artwork
Below are all of the cards revealed during today’s WeeklyMTG stream. More cards will be revealed around the internet until the full set is made available on the official MTG website on July 18.
