It’s not The Witcher 4, but a newly announced Witcher board game three years in the making will explore one of the most important moments in the franchise’s lore in detail: the Pogrom at Kaer Morhen.
Called The Witcher: Legacy, the board game from Go On Board is a sequel to The Witcher: Old World and will focus heavily on the destruction of the School of the Wolf, where Geralt was raised as a Witcher. It’s one of the major pieces of history in the world of the Witcher books and games, an event where a mob of angry peasants stormed Kaer Morhen and killed nearly everyone inside, nearly wiping out the last remaining Witcher school.
Story will be a big part of The Witcher: Legacy, and Go On Board said in a statement on its Gamefound page that it is working closely with CD Projekt Red on both the game’s gameplay and its narrative.
“The stories included in the script books will take you to events that have not yet been fully explored in the games or books,” Go On Board said. “We don’t want to spoil the story for you — we believe you’ll enjoy discovering it on your own — but we can reveal that its central thread is the Pogrom.”
Players will take on the role of a handful of Kaer Morhen survivors who set out on a journey to find those responsible for the Pogrom and “avenge your fallen comrades.” The story will be a branching, scenario-driven narrative where players will make choices that will alter the “history of the Continent itself,” Go On Board said.
While The Witcher: Legacy may be similar to The Witcher: Old World at first glance, Go On Board said it offers a completely different experience. It hasn’t gone into full detail on all the game’s mechanics just yet, but said “its campaign-based structure allows you to deeply immerse yourself in the story, while numerous legacy-style mechanics emphasize your role in shaping it–your choices will truly matter.”
The Witcher: Legacy doesn’t yet have a release date but Go On Board said it will be sharing more information in the coming months. In the meantime, fans can check out The Witcher: Old World and its various expansions. Two new Witcher miniature games also launched earlier this year that allow players to pit characters like Geralt and Ciri against those from other universes.

As for The Witcher 4, CD Projekt Red recently revealed an Unreal Engine 5 tech demo that gives fans an idea of what to expect from the next entry in the RPG franchise. CD Projekt Red has said The Witcher 4 won’t bog players down with fetch quests, and that it hopes fans will “fully embrace” Ciri as the game’s protagonist.
