Later this year, Borderlands 4 will send players to explore a new planet called Kairos. A previous trailer introduced the game’s villain, the Timekeeper, and his minions. Now, the Borderlands 4 dev team is sharing a closer look at Kairos itself, as well as the various factions who live there.
As mentioned in the video, Kairos is a prison planet that’s been ruled by the Timekeeper for a long time. The Timekeeper’s control over the population may not be absolute, but he still possesses the technology to oppress the people and see through their eyes at his whim.
Most of the new factions introduced in the video have their own reasons to hate the Timekeeper. The lone exception so far is Idolater Sol of the Fadefields. He’s been exiled from the capital city and Sol is eager to get back in the Timekeeper’s good graces and prove his worth after the players’ party arrives on the planet. The other factions may oppose the Timekeeper, but there’s no guarantee they’ll be on the side of the player.
Narrative director Sam Winkler recently disclosed that Borderlands 4 is introducing a volume control for Claptrap. In other words, you can finally make Claptrap shut up. The dev team has indicated that Kairos is a “seamless world” that won’t be bogged down by load screens while players explore the planet. Players will also be able to replay previously completed missions.
Gearbox has promised that there are more skills per character than the last two games combined. Borderlands 4 is also slated to introduce a radar feature, which has been requested by fans for a long time.
Borderlands 4 will hit PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on September 12. A port for Switch 2 will be coming a little further down the line.
