Nintendo has hosted several of its Direct livestreams this year, but today, we’re expecting the September broadcast that’s currently streaming to be the big one. Running for around 60 minutes, this is the longest games-focused Nintendo Direct so far and the expectation here is that we’ll see numerous game announcements for the Switch 2 console. We also wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo marks the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros.–September 13–with some big reveals, and rumors of a trailer for The Super Mario Bros. 2 Movie have also begun popping up.

Of course, Mario fans are also hoping to see a new 3D Mario game shown off during the Direct. It has been years since the last 3D Mario game, Super Mario Odyssey, was released and we’re hoping to see the mustachioed plumber leap back into action with a title that could be one of the definitive Switch 2 games.

We also know that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is still scheduled to launch by the end of the year, so a release date for the long-in-development game would be welcome, alongside teasers for more upcoming first-party games from Nintendo. On the third-party side, Capcom is reportedly bringing several Resident Evil games to the system and we might also get release date announcements for Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake games.

As usual, we’ll be keeping track of everything announced, so for fresh updates, don’t forget to hit the F5 key to stay informed.
