Capcom has been on a roll with resurrecting its best franchises, and its latest attempt is Onimusha. Onimusha: Way of the Sword first debuted at The Game Awards in December 2024, and now the latest trailer is giving us a closer look at the gameplay as part of the Summer Game Fest 2025 show.
We already knew that Onimusha: Way of the Sword would feature Musashi Miyamoto, the legendary historical swordsman, as the protagonist, and would be using the face of Toshiro Mifune, star of classic samurai films like Yojimbo and Seven Samuria. Now, though, it looks like we’re getting deeper into the Musashi lore, as his archrival, Kojiro/Ganryu Sasaki, appears in the trailer, looking like he might be the lead antagonist.
As for gameplay, it looks like the game will make heavy use of parrying; we see Musashi parrying attacks big and small throughout the trailer. Additionally, it seems like the other weapons he picks up throughout the game will also take advantage of the dual-wielding techniques Musashi is known for in both history and historical fiction.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is set to release in 2026.
