At Summer Game Fest Live today, Sega revealed that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, the latest entry in the Sonic kart-racing series, includes a roster of characters from pop culture alongside Sonic series mainstays. In a new trailer, Sega showed off Hakune Miku and Persona 5’s Joker. CrossWorlds launches on September 25, and it has cross-play functionality. The developer also teased a Minecraft and Sonic Racing crossover coming in the future.

CrossWorlds, which was announced last year, features a lineup of characters from across Sega properties. In addition to Hatsune Miku and Joker, fan-favorites like Shadow the Hedgehog and Metal Sonic will also be playable. The game will feature 24 tracks, and it is headlined by a dimension-jumping feature designed to vary gameplay across the tracks. After the first lap of each race, the first-place player can choose a portal to spawn on the track that will send players to a “CrossWorld,” on which everyone has to complete the second lap.

In addition to the new trailer, Sega also briefly teased a collaboration with Minecraft that sends players to tracks decked out in the blocky aesthetic of the building game. While little is known about the nature of this crossover, the fine print in the announcement trailer states that the Minecraft content will only be available to owners of the CrossWorlds season pass or Deluxe Edition.

In a dig at Mario Kart World, the developer also stated on stage that the game will feature cross-play functionality to allow players to connect with friends across consoles. CrossWorlds is currently slated for release on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2.
