Helldivers 2 has topped over half a million concurrent players, leading Arrowhead Studios CEO Shams Jorjani to revisit a joke that turned into a meme. VideoGamer reports that Jorjani asked players on Discord to “stop sh*tting your pants” while sharing that 500,490 people were playing the third-person shooter.
Earlier this year, Jorjani told Helldivers 2 fans on Discord that they would “sh*t [their] pants” regarding future plans for the game, according to GamesRadar. That comment quickly got picked up on the game’s subreddit and pants-sh*tting became a thing. Apparently, Jorjani isn’t running away from the joke.

Now Playing: Helldivers 2 x Halo: ODST – Legendary Warbond Gameplay Reveal Trailer
Meanwhile, the explosion in player counts for Helldivers 2 is tied to the game finally coming to Xbox Series X|S this week. In fact, Helldivers 2 even has a Halo: ODST crossover, though Halo’s assault rifle can lead to some crashing issues. Arrowhead is looking into a fix.
Coincidentally, PlayStation and Xbox ended up trading exclusives on the same day, August 26. As Helldivers 2 finally landed on Xbox, Gears of War: Reloaded launched on PS5–bringing chainsaw guns and the Locust to PlayStation for the first time in nearly 20 years of the franchise.
Looking ahead, Helldivers 2 will get an Into the Unjust update on September 2, which will see squads going underground to take on the Terminid hordes. For more, check out GameSpot’s Helldivers 2 review. The game originally released on PS5 and PC in February 2024.
