Sony intends to update its wireless PlayStation 5 DualSense controllers to allow them to pair with multiple devices at once, the company announced on X.

The post didn’t include anything in the way of details, however, but did mention the update would be out “later this year.”

“Want to pair your DualSense controller with multiple devices at once?” Sony wrote in the post. “An update planned for later this year enhances pairing functionality. Stay tuned for more details.”

DualSense controllers use Bluetooth functionality to wirelessly communicate with devices. As the post suggests, currently, the controllers can only be paired with a single device at a time. You can use a DualSense controller with a PS5, PC, Mac, or mobile device, so long as those devices support Bluetooth, but if you want to swap between devices–going from playing a PS5 game to controlling something on an iPad, for example–you have to unpair or turn off the first device in order to pair the controller to the second. That means going through the pairing process every time you want to move from one device to another.

The update Sony is teasing should allow the controller to recognize multiple devices at once so that you won’t have to go through the pairing process every single time you move from one machine to another.

What we don’t know is when the update will be released, or what other enhancements to pairing functionality it might bring. But the DualSense’s compatibility with lots of devices is one of its more useful features, so this is an update that will make using it a little bit easier for players who are big fans of one of Sony’s best controllers.
