MIA
The Xbox Games Showcase on June 8 was stacked with lots of major news, trailers, and announcements, but fans quickly pointed out that the event was missing a few of Microsoft’s major games.
No press conference would be assumed to cover everything, but the absence of titles like Fable and State of Decay 3, among others, stands out as notable.

State of Decay 3
Everwild
Sea of Thieves developer Rare is working on a mysterious project called Everwild, but it was missing from the Xbox Games Showcase.
In 2024, Phil Spencer said the game was making progress, but he did not elaborate. The game was first announced in 2019 and has reportedly gone through significant changes and at least one reboot.
Contraband
In 2021, Microsoft and Just Cause studio Avalanche announced a AAA Xbox-exclusive called Contraband. Set in the 1970s, Contraband was announced as a co-op game that aimed to be a “smuggler’s paradise” and set in a fictional world.
Avalanche hasn’t provided any updates on Contraband in some time, leading some to wonder (and worry) about its fate.
Fable
The new Fable game from Forza Horizon developer Playground got a quick shout-out from Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer at the end of the Xbox Games Showcase. However, that’s all there was.
This might have been more surprising if the game was still on track for release in 2025, but it was delayed to 2026. Fans are still waiting to see gameplay footage or get any other details about the game.
Gears of War: E-Day
The next Gears of War game, Gears of War: E-Day, didn’t show up at the Xbox Games Showcase. What we got, instead, was confirmation from Phil Spencer that the game is coming in 2026.
That’s a while to wait, but a remaster of the original game, Gears of War Reloaded, is coming this August–and the franchise is headed to PlayStation for the first time.
Halo
Microsoft is working on multiple new Halo games, but we didn’t hear anything about any of them at the Xbox Games Showcase.
That being said, Phil Spencer strongly alluded to Halo news coming in 2026 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Xbox and the Halo series.
Forza
Microsoft’s flagship racing series, Forza, was nowhere to be seen at the Xbox Games Showcase. However, Phil Spencer did confirm that 2026 will mark the return of the franchise, though he didn’t confirm if that would be the Forza Motorsport or Forza Horizon series.
Perfect Dark
Microsoft is keeping Perfect Dark fans in the dark for a while longer, as the new Perfect Dark game was MIA at the Xbox Games Showcase.
The game was first announced in 2020 from Microsoft’s new developer The Initiative, with Crystal Dynamics co-developing it. The first gameplay trailer arrived in June 2024, but there hasn’t been any other news since.
